History: Rob and I both grew up in the same country town and had crossed paths many times in our life. We had gone to the same school, the same church; we had even lived next door to one another, but it wasn’t until years later that we finally met. From that moment we were inseparable… I soon realised that Rob was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

Proposal: We had been together for five years and everyone knew we were going to get married they just didn’t know when. Rob finally proposed to me just before my 20th birthday while on holiday in QLD. Our engagement headline in the local paper read ‘she always said she’d marry him’.

Wedding theme: Country elegance with chocolate brown and pink tied in as our colour scheme.

Preparation: We had exactly 11 months to organise our wedding, but it wasn’t without dramas along the way. Although, when I look back at how perfect our wedding day was, I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

The Chapel at Gold Creek:  This was a stunning ceremony venue and we liked the fact that we could get our own celebrant. Lyn was an absolute pleasure and ensured our day went beautifully. Just some advice for other brides considering there ceremony at the Chapel… get in and book early. It’s becoming very popular and books out fast.

Grazing, Gundaroo: What a beautiful country reception, only 15 minutes out of Canberra… our guests commented very positively on this choice of venue and the amazing food. Service was absolutely fantastic!

McGlades: I love my matching handmade engagement ring and wedding band! I absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for quality jewelry. The staff ensured we got exactly what we were after and their service is great. We will definitely be back.

Red Photography: Eric was fantastic and we are thrilled with our photos! I think it’s important to get a photographer that you can build some rapport with, seeing they send most of the day with you… we had no worries with Eric… on the day we all had an absolute blast!

Red Photography was good value for money compared to other photographers. We decided to go with a full day package and do not regret it.  I also loved that we were able to get our photos on disk. I have no hesitation in recommending this photographer.

Wedding dress

A dear friend had made both my year 10 and 12 formal dresses and had said that she would make my wedding dress one day. She put hours and hours of work into the dress… and the finished product was absolutely stunning! It really was my dream dress.

Make-up

My MOH’s mum-in-law  is a retired make-up artist and offered to do our makeup on the day.

Jewellery

The bride’s necklace and earnings were swarckoski crystals bought from Annabel’s Bridal Studio, Kingston. The bridesmaids had matching necklace and earrings. We bought our wedding rings from McGlades in Canberra Centre. My white gold engagement ring and wedding band are handmade with princess cut diamonds. Rob’s wedding band is plain white gold. We engraved the inside of our wedding bands.

Cake

My uncle is a baker in Cooma, so he did our wedding cake. It was chocolate mud cake with white textured icing.

Gift registry

We arranged a honeymoon registry through Student Flights, although most people decided to take use of the wishing well at the reception.

Transport

We borrowed friend’s cars.

Stationery

We bought all the materials for invitations, place cards etc from Belconnen stationary.  We got them to help us with a design and print what we needed and then we did the rest.

Music/Entertainment

3D Entertainment for our reception. We paid a bit extra for them to MC also and it was well worth the money. Everything went smoothly and according to plan on the night. The music was great and had everyone up on the dance floor.

Photographer

Red Photography. Eric Piris, our photographer on the day, was fantastic.

Videographer

We had a friend video the wedding.

Guest accommodation

A large majority of our guests stayed at Rydges Eagle Hawk. A few were lucky enough to get accommodation right in Gundaroo at the local B&Bs. The bride and groom spent their wedding night at Hotel Realm, which was lovely.

Wedding planner

THE BRIDE!!!! I planned just about everything, with a bit of help from my husband. Thanks also go out to my wonderful bridal party for all their help and support along the way.

Honeymoon

Yolanda at Student Flights helped us plan our honeymoon to Thailand. Despite the protesting and subsequent airport closure, we arrived safely and on time and had an amazing time! We spent time in Koh Samui, Phi Phi Island, Phuket and Bangkok before heading home to spend Christmas with family.
